A little about us...

Our Staff

  • David Jackson (owner): A 1975 graduate of Lawton Eisenhower High School and a 1979 graduate of Southwestern Oklahoma State University with a BA in Music degree, David has been with the company since 1980. At that time he was Store Manager, until January of 1998 when owner Don Phillips retired and sold the business to him. Along with a degree in piano performance, he has been involved with electronic keyboards since 1979, when as keyboardist with Wings of Light, a contemporary Christian band, his setup consisted of a Rhodes electric piano and an early Roland monophonic synthesizer. Active in the Worship Band at First Baptist Church, he still performs and records with several local musicians in various styles, including big-band jazz, contemporary Christian, and salsa.

  • David Wilson (guitar department manager): David took charge of guitar sales, maintenance, and repair in mid-April 2004. He is no stranger, however, having worked here part-time from 1992 through 1995. He has taught private guitar lessons for over twenty five years and has performed with several local bands over the years. He has fully embraced computer-based recording, operating a project studio at our education center and providing hands-on product support on our in-store PC.

  • Graydon Miller Jr.: Graydon came to work part-time in 1988 after "retirement" from thirty years as owner of Miller Band Instrument Company. His knowledge of the band instrument industry proved invaluable as Phillips Music expanded into that market. (Note: Graydon passed away in March of 2002. His contribution to the Lawton music community will be missed, and his bio remains here as a small tribute.)

  • Melissa Johnson: After travelling the country (from Oklahoma to Connecticut at least), Melissa returned to Lawton in 2014 and Phillips Music in July of 2015. She has a Bachelors of Music degree from Cameron University and loves to sing as well as play clarinet, sax, and ukulele. In her free time, Melissa also enjoys writing and spoiling her Scottish Terrier, Maggie.

  • Kenneth Williams: Kenneth came on board as a familiar face in 2016, having been the resident bass player in our student/teacher bands for the previous few years. He was born in Ft. Bragg, NC but moved to Lawton when in elementary school. He graduated from Lawton Eisenhower in 2015 and attended Cameron University as a Music Major. He plays trombone, euphonium, and tuba as well as guitar and bass guitar. He's an avid reader and an Eagle Scout - favorite band - Needtobreathe.

  • Anthony Moore (Mo): Originally from NE Alabama, Mo played trumpet, baritone, and french horn in high school. For a short time after high school he apprenticed in instrument repair in Gadsden, Alabama. He served in the US Army from 2005-2011, which led him to Lawton-Ft Sill. He has been sound tech at a local music venue for 7 years, joining the Phillips Music team in August of 2019. Mo is a fan of all local music, art, events, and entertainment.
