After studying at the Hill shop in London, England at the turn of the last century James Croft left England and moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba where he opened his violin shop in 1915. For the next 52 years he worked on thousands of violins, violas, cellos and basses and earned an international reputation as a highly skilled restoration specialist. His protegé, Harold Meyers, joined the firm after World War 2 and retired in 1988.   

Oct. 1, 2002 saw a re-birth of our workshop when Anton Domozhyrov joined us to become luthier in residence at Croft Music. Anton's keen eye for detail has helped many unhealthy instruments to be restored to their original playing condition.
